Fort Sumter was where the first shots were fired. The union went to south Carolina and pushed the confederate troops of the fort. It worked temporary because the confederate army realized it was on there land so they got mad and was ordering the union to leave. The union general disagreed so the confederate troops started firing in all direction towards the base. it went on for 2 days and surprisingly nobody died and the union evacuated giving the victory to the confederate army general P.G.T Beauregard. a famous quote from this battle was "Our Southern brethren have done grievously, they have rebelled and have attacked their father's house and their loyal brothers. They must be punished and brought back, but this necessity breaks my heart." from a from a soldier named Robert Anderson.
First Battle of Bull Run was the first real battle of the Civil War. the union wanted to crush the south so they marched towards their capital which was Richmond, Virginia. the two armies meet and confederate soldiers made the union retreat. confederate reinforcements arrived and pushed the union back even more. this battle proved that this was not going to a one sided war. a famous quote was "Under divine blessing" from Thomas Jackson.
Gettysburg was the last major battle of the civil war. DAY 1:general lee wanted to get between the union army and Washington DC to isolate them and put end to the war. as they marched north all roads converged on Gettysburg. Confederate didn't know how many troops the union had so they were cautious in there attack. after a fight between the two armies the northern army was pushed back.

Shermans March was the last demolishing blow to the south. Shermans army charged confederate to south Carolina. and practiced total war. which means he demolished everything in his path like cotton fields and buildings and other things. he stretched 100,000 troops 60 miles long with four generals directing them. they arrived in Atlanta in 1864 and burnt the whole city to ashes. one quote of the shermans march was "War is hell" from Sherman himself.
